Daniil Medvedev vs Alexander Bublik
July 24, 2021 11:00 pm EDT
Daniil Medvedev meets Alexander Bublik in the first round of 2020 Olympics on Saturday, July 24th, 2021.
Will Alexander Bublik be able to shock everyone and defeat probably the only threat to Novak Djokovic’s Gold Medal run here in Tokyo, or will Medvedev show us that he can beat anyone and everyone in these hard court conditions as we have seen him do many times.
Alexander Bublik will be very happy to be here in Tokyo, ready to put on an entertaining show as he aims to cause the upset. Alexander Bublik is one of the most naturally talented players on the ATP Tour, as he is able to hit any shot from anywhere really. However, I have not seen Bublik perform to his best in the biggest tournaments in the world. Bublik’s best tennis is usually reserved for ATP 250 and 500 tournaments, and he will need to be determined to give it his all here in Tokyo if he is to cause the upset.
Daniil Medvedev has been training very hard behind closed doors to put on an amazing run here in Tokyo as he wants to make it as far as possible if not winning it all. Daniil Medvedev knows that most of his success on the ATP Tour has come from hard court tournaments. Daniil Medvedev is incredibly hard to beat in these conditions because his balls go through the court extremely fast and he is able to dominate the matches with his serve as well. How well will he play right from the start here in Tokyo?

This is going to be the 4th meeting between both players, with Medvedev having won all of their prior encounters. Alexander Bublik is a good player, but he has never won a set against Medvedev, and I don’t expect him to do so here. Medvedev dominated their match this year on clay in Paris, and we all know that Medvedev does not like clay too much. Now that he is on a hard court which is his favourite surface, he will definitely have a great match and get the win in 2 sets.
