Albert Ramos-Vinolas (1) meets Carlos Alcaraz (7) in the semi final of the 2021 Croatia Open on Saturday, July 24th, 2021.
Who will come out on top in this All-Spanish matchup here in Croatia? Will it be the young and high potential, Carlos Alcaraz, to make his maiden ATP Tour Final, or will it be the experienced and clay court loving Albert Ramos-Vinolas to have a shot at his second title of the year?
Carlos Alcaraz put on a solid display in his match against Filip Krajinovic in the quarter finals, beating the much more experienced opponent in 3 sets 7-6/2-6/6-1. The match was incredibly tight in the first set, but Carlos was able to edge through it. After that, Carlos let his guard down slightly and Krajinovic came back. However, Carlos realised his mistake in the third and made sure to put his foot down and get the big win under his belt. Carlos has made a semi final on clay already this year, but this time he wants to go at least one step further.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas dominated his match against Stefano Travaglia in the quarter finals, beating him in 2 easy sets 6-2/6-1. Albert Ramos-Vinolas will want to keep this momentum going as he knows that he still has a lot of success in his career to come in these smaller clay-court ATP 250 tournaments. However, he will have to fend off the determined challenge of his fellow Spanish youngster Alcaraz who does not care how experienced you are, he will give it his best shot.
This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Alcaraz having won their only prior encounter. It was a very tight match on clay in Rio in 2020 where Alcaraz beat him, and since then Carlos has improved drastically. Albert Ramos-Vinolas will definitely have the experience and he will be determined to show the youngster that he can still compete, but I think this is Alcaraz’ time to shine and get himself close to his maiden title on the ATP Tour as he continues to make a name for himself.
