Elena Rybakina meets Elina Svitolina in the 3rd place final of Tokyo 2020 on Saturday, July 31st, 2021.
Will we see the up and comer or the more experienced player to come out on top here in what is going to be a very entertaining encounter between two amazing fighters at the Tokyo Olympics as they aim to win Bronze?
Elena Rybakina fell short in her quest to making the final here in Tokyo, losing to the very determined and in form Swiss, Belinda Bencic in 3 sets 6-7/6-4/3-6. Both of them have been in strong form and they put on a show for everyone watching at home. However, when push came to shove, Elena did not have the necessary composure on her serve to get the job done in the third set. Elena still has a chance at a medal here but she will need to ensure she comes out ready to fight in another battle now.
Elina Svitolina also fell short in her match in the semi finals against Marketa Vondrousova, losing in 2 sets, 3-6/1-6. Elina had been in great form all week, and many expected her to reach the final but she did not show us that she was ready to hold her serve as consistently as she needed to if she was going to beat Marketa. Elina Svitolina will come into this match knowing that there is still hope to win bronze and her fans at home will be happy with that, so she will come out here and fight until the end as she wants to bring joy home.
This is going to be the 3rd match between both players, with both of them having won one encounter against each other. This will be the last opportunity either of them get of getting a medal this week so they will be fighting as much as possible to come out victorious. Looking at their weeks here, I think Elina has been the better player in terms of quality and opposition she has met. Elena will keep things tight, but Elina will come out here and bring some joy to Ukraine as she wins the Bronze medal.
