Alexander Zverev meets Karen Khachanov in the final of Tokyo 2020 on Sunday, August 1st, 2021.

Will it be Karen to come out here and continue shocking us this week in Tokyo as he aims to win Gold or will it be an easy ride for Alexander after having completed an almost impossible task in beating Novak Djokovic in the semi final?

Karen Khachanov put on a dominant performance in the semi finals, beating the experienced and in form Spaniard, Pablo Carreno Busta, in 2 sets 6-3/6-3. This is a great match for Karen to get under his belt because he has not been in great form for the last 2 years in big tournaments, and Pablo has, and getting this win under his belt will give Karen the belief that he can return to the top 10 in the world and compete for big titles. Can Karen cause another upset here in Tokyo against Zverev to win gold?

Alexander Zverev showed us some amazing composure in the semi finals, coming back from a set and a break down against the best player in the world in Novak Djokovic. Zverev just began hitting the ball as hard as he could when he was down a break in the second set, and Novak who had become a bit more passive after that game could not handle it anymore. Zverev will be so happy with his performance and he knows that the pressure is on him now that he beat Novak everyone expects him to beat Karen in the final.

This is going to be the 5th meeting between both players, with both of them having won 2 matches against each other. They are very experienced players for their age and they know how to play each other. They are similar in terms of serve and forehand, but where it really matters in this match, on the backhand side, Alexander is so far ahead of Khachanov. Karen will have to maintain this match on the forehand side, but I don’t expect him to be able to as Zverev always finds a way to get his amazing backhand into play, and this will allow him to win the Gold medal here in Tokyo.
