Kei Nishikori vs Cameron Norrie
August 5, 2021 4:00 pm EDT
Kei Nishikori meets Cameron Norrie in the third round of the 2021 Citi Open on Thursday, August 5th 2021. Who will make their way to the third round?
Will we see the continuous improvement of Kei Nishikori as he aims to find his best form and get himself far into every tournament he plays in or will Cameron Norrie use all the momentum he has gained throughout 2021 and get another big win under his belt as he rises up the rankings?
Cameron Norrie put on a dominant performance in the second round, beating Marcos Giron in 2 sets 6-4/6-3 to get himself into the third round. Cameron is just so consistent this year, playing well in every tournament he plays in and getting himself in contention for reaching the later stages. Cameron will want to keep this going and get one of his biggest wins this year as he meets Kei Nishikori who was one of the best players out there when he was at his best, and he is currently making that return as he playes better week after week.
Kei Nishikori also was on top of his match against Alexander Bublik in the second round, beating him in 2 sets 6-2/7-5 in what was a very good win for the Japanese star. Kei Nishikori showed us that even if someone on the other side of the court has been in great form this year and they can hit incredible shots, Kei has more experienced and has beaten bigger names. Kei is determined to get himself back to where he used to be and he always leaves it all out on the court in order to not feel like he is not on the right track.
This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Kei having won their only prior encounter. Kei Nishikori knows that this is going to be a tight match because Cameron has been one of the most in form players this year, but I think he backs himself to get the good win under his belt. Kei beat a much tougher opponent than what Norrie beat in the second round, and he will use that momentum to get this win under his belt as well and get to the quarter finals.
