Alexander Zverev vs Andrey Rublev

Alexander Zverev (3) of Germany will face Russian Andrey Rublev (4) in the Final of the 2021 Cincinnati Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday August 22nd, 2021 at 4:30pm EST.

This is a Final between two of the best and most exciting players on the ATP Tour, as third seeded Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev square off for the chance to become the 2021 Cincinnati Open. Both men have been extremely consistent throughout the 2021 season and will be eager to get the win here as they prepare for a run at the US Open crown that is suddenly a bit more achievable with the withdrawals of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem. Who will win and become the Cincinnati Open champion?

Alexander Zverev is ranked 5th in the world and is the third seed here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. The German has shown that he produces on American soil, and will be hoping to go one better than his runner-up finish at the US Open last year. He is having the ideal preparation here at the Cincinnati Open, and has been hugely impressive in his run to the Final so far. After cruising past his first three opponents and only facing one break point in the process, he faced his sternest test in the Semi-Finals, where he narrowly escaped defeat against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek star had a 5-3 advantage in the final set and served for the match at 5-4, but Zverev was able to claw his way back from the brink of defeat and snatch the unlikely victory. He has been serving extremely well and history has shown that when he does so he is extremely tough to beat as that can sometimes be his downfall. He enters this match as the favorite due to his overwhelming head to head record over his opponent Andrey Rublev and it will need a big effort by the Russian to stop him.

Andrey Rublev is ranked #7 on the ATP Tour and is the fourth seed here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. The Russian star has been a very solid and consistent performer over the past few seasons and has recently started to make his presence felt in the bigger events and majors. He entered this event in relatively poor form and will be delighted to have reached the Final here, building some momentum before the US Open. Rublev has had a very difficult path to the Final here in Cincinnati, with three of his four matches going to three sets and the win over Monfils was in two tough tiebreakers. However, he found a way to pull through, and was especially impressive in his first ever win over top seeded Daniil Medvedev in the Semis. The match looked like it was over when Medvedev won the first set easily, but Rublev kept his composure and was able to fight back. When he is playing well he can be unstoppable due to his huge penetrating groundstrokes, but the defense of Alexander Zverev will counteract that well. He is the underdog here but should not be overlooked as he certainly has the talent to win if his opponent is not at his best.

Alexander Zverev has won all four times that they have played, and all four have been in convincing fashion. I don’t think that it will be quite so easy this time around but I do expect the German to win the title here. Andrey Rublev has been one of the most outstanding players over the past three years, but Zverev is a different beast when it comes to late in these larger events, and has massive experience having already won four Masters-1000 events. I think that it will be relatively close, but expect Alexander Zverev to win here, building some serious momentum for his assault on the US Open title. Alexander Zverev to win in two tight sets, becoming the 2021 Cincinnati Open champion.
