Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Carlos Alcaraz
September 7, 2021 8:15 pm EDT

Twelfth seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada will face unseeded Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday September 7th, 2021 at 8:15pm EST.

A blockbuster of a match is expected here at the 2021 US Open as two of the most exciting and talented young players on the ATP Tour collide for a spot in the Semi-Finals. Felix Auger-Aliassime is the more experienced and well known of the two but Carlos Alcaraz has been turning heads with his fantastic performances so far here in New York, and has shown that he is ready to step up to compete at these big events. Who will get the win and advance to their first ever Grand Slam Semi-Final?

Felix Auger-Aliassime is ranked #15 in the world and is seeded #12 here at the 2021 US Open. The Canadian star has lots of experience at this level despite his young age of 21, and has been a staple of the top 30 of the rankings for quite some time now. He has reached an amazing eight ATP Tour Finals throughout his career but has failed to win any, a statistic that he would like to change. He has been very impressive here in New York so far, with big wins over Roberto Bautista Agut and Frances Tiafoe allowing him to reach this stage, and his confidence will be sky high. FAA has a fantastic opportunity to reach the Semis here as his opponent is very inexperienced and he will enter this match as the heavy favorite. He will be looking to use the one two punch of his serve and forehand to get the upper hand on his opponent Carlos Alcaraz but knows that he will need to keep the errors down.

Carlos Alcaraz is unseeded here at the 2021 US Open and is ranked #55 on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard is considered one of the top young players in world tennis but is really breaking out before our eyes here in New York. A stunning win over Stefanos Tsitsipas announced him to the world, and he has backed that up with some very mature performances. He was made to work in the Round of 16 by Peter Gojowczyk but passed that test impressively with a very mature performance. While he is the underdog here, he is playing with nothing to lose and his groundstrokes are among the most powerful in the world. FAA is not known for his mental abilities especially when it comes to the later stages of Grand Slams and if he is feeling the pressure here then the Spaniard will be ready to seize the opportunity.

This is set to be a thrilling match and will be full of flashy winners and fantastic tennis overall. It is tough to pick a winner for this one and I am expecting a very close match. Normally I would choose Felix Auger-Aliassime, but he has been known to crumble under the pressure at big tournaments, and Carlos Alcaraz is in the form of his life. After considering everything, I am going to side with FAA to win this one. He put in a very focused and mature performance against Tiafoe in the Round of 16, and he is extremely tough to beat when fully focused. He seems to have turned the corner mentally and while I expect the Spaniard to give it his all and keep it close, FAA will eventually grind out a win and advance to the Semis of a major for the first time.
