The unseeded duo of Andy Murray of Great Britain and Vasek Pospisil of Canada will do battle in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Metz Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday September 22nd, 2021.

A highly entertaining match is very likely here in Metz as former world number one Andy Murray will play Vasek Pospisil in the Round of 16. Both men are very experienced and while neither is currently at their best, they are capable of some very high quality tennis so this is sure to be a good match for the fans. They are both on the recovery trail after a tough couple of years dealing with injuries and loss of form, and it will be interesting to see how this match goes. Despite his lower ranking, Murray should be considered the favorite due to his recent good form, but a close match is expected. Who will hold their nerve and get the win to advance to the Quarter-Finals?

Andy Murray is a former Grand Slam champion who has been severely injured over the past few years, and currently finds himself ranked outside the top 100. However, he has been showing signs of life lately, and was very unfortunate to not defeat third seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in the First Round of the US Open, where he lost in five sets. He displayed a high level of tennis and if he can continue in that vein he will shoot up the rankings in no time. However, his fitness will always be in question, and he surprisingly lost to the unfancied Roman Saufilin in a French Challenger, so that type of inconsistency is what is keeping him back at the moment. He turned it around nicely here in Metz, with a big upset win over sixth seeded Ugo Humbert, where he impressively came back from a set down, dispelling all notions that his injuries were back. He controlled the match from the baseline and never allowed his opponent to settle in the third set, using all of his experience and tactical superiority to get he job done. He is the favorite here against Vasek Pospisil but is in for a tough day at the office against a highly experienced opponent.

Vasek Pospisil is currently ranked 66 in the world and is unseeded here at the 2021 Metz Open. Like his opponent Andy Murray, he has not been at his best lately and has seen his ranking suffer terribly. He will be eager to have a solid week here to re-establish himself on the ATP Tour, and started well here, defeating Gergoire Barrere in straight sets in the First Round. He served very well and wasn’t really tested much, dominating his French opponent from the baseline with some measured big hitting. He certainly has the game to cause And Murray some issues, however he has not had much success against him in the past, losing 4 of the 5 matches that they have played.

This is the sixth time that the players are facing each other, so they know each other’s games well. I am expecting a high quality match with Vasek Pospisil trying to take over the match with his aggressiveness, and Murray using his defense as best as he can. I am going with Murray here, as he has the more well-rounded game and has been in better form lately. Once his hip can withstand another tough match, he has more than enough quality to get the job done, and his confidence will be at a very high level after than impressive win over Humbert. Pospisil will give it his all and it won’t be easy, but Andy Murray will win here, advancing to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Metz Open.
