Cameron Norrie vs Tommy Paul

Tommy Paul looks to back up that extremely solid victory against Andrey Rublev here in Indian Wells as he meets Cameron Norrie in the fourth round here at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021.

Will Cameron Norrie show us the resilience he showed in his long and tough match against Roberto Bautista Agut, or will Tommy Paul knock out another seed this week as he showed he can beat a top 5 player on Monday night?

Tommy Paul put on an amazing performance in the third round, beating the very in form and heavy favourite, Andrey Rublev, in 3 sets 6-4/3-6/7-5. Tommy Paul got his first top 5 win on the ATP Tour and he did it in style as he hit some incredible shots to win the match. He did have a moment when serving at 5-3 in the third set where he got broken, but he ensured he kept his composure and got the break back quickly to win the match. Paul put on a show for the American crowd and he will be wanting to do the exact same now that he enters the fourth round.

Cameron Norrie also had to come through a hard fought third round match, beating the always tough and consistent, Roberto Bautista Agut, in 3 sets 6-4/5-7/6-3. Cameron was able to get some early momentum in points by hitting big and lefty swinging serves, and Roberto was not at his best on the return unfortunately. Cameron will be very happy with this win and he will know that if he can beat Roberto, he can definitely beat Tommy Paul if he is at his best.

This is the third encounter amongst Tommy and Cameron. They met most recently earlier this year in Melbourne, in similar conditions. Tommy has won both of their prior matches in 3 sets, and I expect a similar result here. Cameron did beat Roberto Bautista Agut who is so hard to beat, but Tommy Paul beat the World No.5 in Andrey Rublev. Tommy will have the backing of the crowd as he did on Monday, and he will have the confidence to get the job done.
