BNP Paribas Open: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Alex de Minaur 10/13/21 Tennis Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alex de Minaur

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minuar will play each other in the Round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday October 13th, with the winner moving on to the Quarter-Finals.

Can Stefanos Tsitsipas continue his great form and move on to yet another Quarter-Final at a big event like the BNP Paribas Open? He has not won as many titles as he would have liked this season but has been incredibly consistent. Alex de Minaur has been very poor lately but we all know his quality, can he rediscover it in time to cause the upset?

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been one of the standout players this year on the ATP Tour, but that has not translated into a lot of titles. He reached his first Grand Slam Final at Roland Garros, but was disappointing at both Wimbledon and the US Open, and will be hoping to win this event here especially since the field is weaker without Djokovic and Nadal. He was surprisingly pushed to three sets by Fabio Fognini, and knows that he will have to improve a lot here if he wants to seriously contend for the title here at the BNP Paribas Open. Luckily for him, his opponent Alex de Minaur seems to be low on confidence after a miserable run, and he will be hoping to use this match to prepare for the tougher ones ahead.

Alex de Minaur is one of the best players in the world, but has had a very poor season in 2021. After winning a title early in the year he has been very disappointing, and will be very eager to get out of his slump with some good results towards the end of the year. He seemed to be back at his best in the Third Round, upsetting Cristian Garin in a dominant display, and that will have gone a long way towards restoring that confidence. He is a very good mover and strong defensively, and that will have to be at its best to be able to cope with the huge power that Tsitsipas is going to throw his way.

This is an interesting match on paper, but in reality I think that it will be one way traffic, with Stefanos Tsitsipas winning easily. He is the much better player at the moment and even though de Minaur looked good against Garin, he is extremely hard to trust due to his poor season. Tsitsipas has way too much firepower and should be able to hit through his opponent with relative ease. I don’t see a scenario where he loses this match, and he will move on to the Quarter-Finals here at the BNP Paribas Open.
