Nitto ATP Finals: Hubert Hurkacz vs. Jannik Sinner 11/16/21 Tennis Prediction

Hubert Hurkacz vs Jannik Sinner
November 16, 2021 5:00 pm EDT

Hubert Hurkacz of Poland will play the young Italian Jannik Sinner in the Group Stages of the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals. The match will be played on Tuesday November 16th, 2021 at 5:00pm EST.

Hubert Hurkacz and Jannik Sinner will do battle in the Group Stages of the Nitto ATP Finals and it is poised to be a very high-quality match full of attacking tennis. The young Italian sensation Sinner is making his ATP Finals debut having come in as the first alternate when countryman Matteo Berrettini was forced to withdraw due to injury. Hurkacz is in “must-win” mode as he dropped his opening match to Daniil Medvedev, and a loss here will significantly hurt his chances of qualifying for the Final. Who will score the victory here?

Hubert Hurkacz has had an outstanding year in 2021, winning his first ever Masters-1000 event in Miami and then reaching the Semi-Finals at Wimbledon, his first appearance at that stage in a Grand Slam. The big Pole will be aiming to finish his year with a bang with some victories at the Nitto ATP Finals but lost his first match here to Danill Medvedev, playing extremely good tennis and can consider himself unlucky to have lost. He won the first set in a tiebreaker before the experienced Russian fought back to take the match. Hurkacz will face Jannik Sinner, a surprise opponent after Matteo Berrettini was forced to retire in his first match. Hurkacz enters this match as the favorite, but the Italian has been in great form lately and is playing at home, and will be a very dangerous opponent here.

Jannik Sinner was not expecting to get the opportunity to play at these Finals, but fully deserves the call after what was a breakthrough season in 2021. The young Italian has announced himself as the best young player in world tennis, and has been rocketing up the rankings over the past few seasons. His game is very well suited to these fast courts here in Turin, and the home crowd will give him a massive boost. In a sense, he is playing with nothing to lose here and will definitely be aiming to give the Italian fans something to cheer about. While he is the underdog he should definitely not be discounted as he has been in sensational form lately.

I am expecting a very high quality match, and one that will very likely go to three sets. Both men are very evenly matched and seem to be in good form, however Hurkacz has the advantage in that he has played one match on these courts already. However, I am going with Jannik Sinner. The Italian has been outstanding all year, and has matured right before our very eyes. In a very close match like this I think that the home support will be the difference here, and I see him winning a very tight three setter in his 2021 Nitto ATP Finals debut.
