Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Jannik Sinner

Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Australian Open on Wednesday, January 26th 2022.

Will Jannik Sinner be able to get a huge upset under his belt as he aims to make his maiden grand slam semi-final, or will Stefanos Tsitsipas show us why he is the world no.4 after that incredible fourth round match?

Jannik Sinner cruised through his fourth round match, beating the local Aussie, Alex de Minaur, in straight sets. Jannik was never really in any trouble throughout that match, as he was solid on his serve and then had the freedom on the return to go for his shots. Sinner is in his first AO grand slam quarter-final and he will be very happy to have come this far so early on this year. However, he will be very focused on getting himself one step further as he aims to show us why he is the next big thing.

Stefanos Tsitsipas fought through an incredibly tight 5-set match against the hard hitting, Taylor Fritz, beating the American having to come back from a set down and also 2-1 sets down. Tsitsipas started off a bit slowly in the first set, and Taylor was ready to get things going right from the start. Tsitsipas also found some issues on his timing having received time violations which took him out of his rhythm. However, the Greek was able to keep things tight enough to steal a set, and then when the fourth set started, Tsitsipas started to find his best tennis again and finally got the form he needed to get the win.

This is going to be the 4th meeting between both players, with Tsitsipas having won 2 of their 3 prior encounters. They met once a year for the last 3 years, and usually Tsitsipas cruised through the matches, except for in 2020 in Rome where Tsitsipas was a bit off form but still pushed it to 3 sets. Jannik has been great all tournament, but he has also not really faced anyone that tough here. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has had tougher opponents and he has found a way through tight matches. I expect yet another tight match for the Greek here and I think his experience will see him through again.
