Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev meet in the final of the 2022 tennis Madrid Open.

Carlos Alcaraz is coming off a three sets win over Novak Djokovic that took 38 games to decide. In the victory, Alcaraz won 74 percent of his first serve points and 51 percent of his second serve points. Alcaraz won 66 percent of his total service points and converted on two of his 10 break points. Alcaraz bounced back nicely after dropping the first set and saved five of his six break points. With this being his fourth final appearance of the year, Alcaraz is quickly becoming a tennis superstar. Alcaraz has a chance to win his fifth career title and second ATP 1000 title. Alcaraz is 4-0 in previous final matches and 3-0 in final matches on clay. Alcaraz has won nine straight matches on clay court.

Alexander Zverev is coming off a three sets win over Stefanos Tsitsipas that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 83 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Zverev won 76 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his five break points. Zverev got 73 percent of his first serves in play and hit four aces. Zverev has won three straight matches that have gone the distance. Zverev looks to win his 20th title of his career and his sixth ATP 1000 title. Zverev is 5-4 in ATP 1000 final appearances and is 6-2 in final appearances on clay. Zverev has won seven of his last nine matches on clay court.

Zverev has won both meetings against Alcaraz in straight sets. The matches took place in 2021 in Vienna and Acapulco.

Zverev in the underdog role yet again is worth a look, as he’s playing well, and he has a history in this tournament. However, Alcaraz has the crowd behind him, and that’s massive in a final. Alcaraz is blossoming into a star before our eyes, and he’s actually currently the second favorite to win the French Open, behind only Nadal. The hype is real folks. Alcaraz isn’t somebody I’m willing to step in front of at the moment.
