Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev meet in the semifinals of the 2022 tennis Italian Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming off a straight set win over Jannik Sinner that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Tsitsipas won 71 percent of his first serve points and 42 percent of his second serve points. Tsitsipas won 61 percent of his total service points and converted on three of his six break points. Tsitsipas got 65 percent of his first serves in play and saved five of his six break points. Four of Tsitsipas’ last eight wins have been decided in straight sets. Tsitsipas looks to make his 20th final appearance of his career and his second ATP 1000 final. Tsitsipas is 1-1 in 1000 semifinal matches and hasn’t made a final since the 2019 Miami Open. Tsitsipas has won six of his last seven matches on clay court.

Alexander Zverev is coming off a straight set win over Cristian Garin that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 70 percent of his first serve points and 52 percent of his second serve points. Zverev won 64 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his 11 break points. Zverev got 64 percent of his first serves in play and saved four of his five break points. Zverev has yet to drop a set this tournament and has won 14 of his last 17 sets overall. Zverev looks to make his 31st final appearance of his career and his 11th ATP 1000 final appearance. Zverev looks to make his third final appearance at the Italian Open. Zverev has won seven of his last eight matches on clay court.

Tsitsipas has won seven of the 11 meetings against Zverev and is 3-1 against him on clay. However, Zverev won the most recent match this year in Madrid. Six of the 11 meetings were decided in straight sets.

Tsitsipas should have the edge because of the head-to-head numbers, but we’re getting plus money with Zverev, who is arguably playing the better tennis right now and has had more success in this tournament and in 1000 tournaments overall. Zverev also just beat Tsitsipas a couple of weeks ago in Madrid.

Toss up matchup, but Zverev and the plus money is the value play here.
