Third seeded American Taylor Fritz will meet Alexander Bublik in the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 Eastbourne International. The match will be played on Thursday June 23rd, 2022.
Taylor Fritz has been in miserable form of late, and not much was expected of him here in Eastbourne. After First Round losses in Hertogenbosch and Queen’s, many were expecting another early exit. The luck of the draw was on his side and he was paired up against the clay court specialist Thiago Monteiro. The Brazilian had been in good form lately, and he pushed the American as much as he could. Fritz was able to use his big serve to hold at will and was able to come away with the tight two set win 7-5, 6-3. While his serve will always be a weapon, he has struggled mightily to break serve, and as his opponents get better and better this will become more of an issue. Alexander Bublik is a much better player than Monteiro, and his serve and all-around game will certainly pose a threat to the third seeded Fritz.
Alexander Bublik is unseeded here at Eastbourne, and is ranked #39 in the world. The Kazakh is one of the most talented yet unpredictable players on the tour, capable of world-class tennis but also liable to throw in a shocking loss or two. He has largely had a solid year, and has been a bit easier to predict. His serve is a major weapon, and his versatility make him very dangerous on all surfaces. He has looked good so far here in Eastbourne, with solid wins over Frances Tiafoe in the First Round before dismantling John Millman in the Round of 16. His unpredictability makes him very tough to predict, and while is is slightly the underdog here, he has an very real chance to win here.
I am going with Alexander Bublik to win this match. Taylor Fritz is probably the better player, but his confidence seems to be shot after a difficult run. Bublik when focused is capable of beating anyone, and his 3-0 record over the American is telling. Fritz’s serve will keep him in it, but the Kazakh is certainly capable of a break or two and that’s all it will take. Bublik in three.
