Denis Shapovalov will meet Brandon Nakashima in the Second Round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday June 30th, 2022.

Denis Shapovalov is the 13th seed here at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships and would have initially been considered a contender for the title, if not for his miserable 2022 form. The Canadian has really struggled to string consistent tennis together After starting the year with a bang including a win over Rafa Nadal on clay, he has been on a long losing streak which he barely managed to end with a tough five set win over the unheralded Arthur Rinderknech. Despite all of his struggles he is still a very talented player, and one that we expect to break out of his funk very soon. He was last year’s Semi-Finalist and has had good results on this surface so he should still be considered the slight favorite here against Brandon Nakashima. One good thing is that he has been serving well so far, something that will need to continue.

Brandon Nakashima has been having a solid year so far, and has boosted his ranking very close to the top 50. He had some solid wins in the Wimbledon warm-up events, and his big serve and forehand are very dangerous on this quick grass surface. He was given a favorable First Round draw and faced Nicola Kuhn, a solid yet unspectacular opponent who he was able to defeat in four sets. While there were a lot of positives coming out of that win there were also some negatives, which he will need to quickly correct before he faces Denis Shapovalov. He only got 60% of his first serves in, a number that will need to go up and he also had more unforced errors than winners. That is usually a sign of defeat when done against the top players, so he will have to reign that in.

This will be the first match between the two players on the ATP Tour.

This is a potential blockbuster match between two of the best young players on the ATP Tour. Despite his young age, Denis Shapovalov is already a veteran of sorts with bags of experience, which I expect to be the difference here. Brandon Nakashima has a bright future in this sport and his explosive game is sure to make this a close encounter, but I trust the Canadian just a little bit more. This should be an incredibly fun match to watch with lots of exciting play, but back Shapovalov to edge the American here in four of five sets.
