Dan Evans will meet Yoshihito Nishioka in the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 Washington Open. The match will be played on Friday August 5th, 2022.
Dan Evans is the 16th seed here at the Washington Open and is ranked number 40 on the ATP Tour. The British number two has had a mixed season so far, with some outstanding performances mixed in with some poor ones. As he prepares for the US Open on his favored hard court surface he has looked solid this week, with two wins over Kyle Edmond and Taylor Fritz to start. The win over Fritz was particularly outstanding, as the third seeded American has been having a fantastic season and was one of the favorites to win the title. Evans was very measured in his approach and used his versatility well to frustrate his opponent, and he will enter this match as the favorite against Yoshihito Nishioka.
Yoshihito Nishioka is unseeded here at the Washington Open and is ranked 96th in the world. The Japanese player was once ranked inside the top 50 in the world and is better than his ranking suggests. He has had three upset wins in a row so far here, defeating Jenson Brooksby, Atlanta champion Alex de Minaur and Karen Khachanov. All three of those wins were very unexpected and his confidence will be very high. He has all the talent in the world and is very consistent, but he will have to be at his best to upset his fourth opponent in a row in Dan Evans.
Usually I would predict an easy win for Dan Evans, but Nishioka’s recent form has me thinking twice. I cannot imagine that this incredible streak can continue but I was saying that before each match that he has played. I am going to go with my gut here and bet against him again, and backing Dan Evans for the win. His experience and varied game should be able to carry him through here, but I certainly would stay away from the straight sets market. I am expecting a close contest, but give me Evans to win here and advance to the Semi-Finals.
