Andrey Rublev will meet Yoshihito Nishioka in the Semi-Finals of the 2022 Washington Open. The match will be played on Saturday August 6th, 2022.

Top seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia is ranked #8 in the world. While he has established himself as one of the best players in the world over the past few seasons, he has been pretty inconsistent and is still looking for that one breakthrough win at a big tournament. The number one seed has looked good this week at the Washington Open, reaching the Semis without dropping a set. After an impressive win over Maxime Cressy in the Round of 16, he was handed a very surprising Quarter-Final opponent in JJ Wolf, who he dispatched with ease. His groundstrokes were on fire during this match, hitting winners at will. He is the big favorite here against yet another surprise opponent, Yoshihito Nishioka and he will be heavily backed to advance.

Yoshihiti Nishioka is unseeded here at the Washington Open, and the world number 96 has reached a Semi-Final for the first time this season. A very talented yet unspectacular baseliner, the Japanese player has upset four higher ranked opponents so far in this tournament, most recently beating Dan Evans in three sets. He was down and out when Evans was up a break in the third, but he recovered well to win that set 7-5. While his form has been great, he has not quite faced an opponent of the caliber of Rublev and he will be up against it yet again.

It will be difficult to go against Yoshihito Nishioka yet again, after he has proved us wrong all tournament long with his giant-killing exploits. However, I think his luck will run out here, as Andrey Rublev simply has too much firepower for him to handle. The Japanese star has been outstanding this week and he will be thinking that he has yet another upset left in the bag, but I am expecting Rublev to run away with this one here. He should be able to dominate this match using his big groundstrokes, and he will move on to the Final here at the Washington Open in straight sets.
