Nick Kyrgios will meet Mikael Ymer in the Semi-Final of the 2022 Washington Open. The match will be played on Saturday August 6th, 2022.

A very unlikely pair will contest one of the Semi-Finals at the Washington Open, the unseeded and surprising Mikael Ymer will square off against one of the pre-tournament favorites Nick Kyrgios of Australia. Kyrgios is in outstanding form, can the Swede cause the massive upset and get the win?

Nick Kyrgios is not seeded here at the Washington Open, but due to his immense ability was considered one of the favorites to win the title. He certainly has backed that claim up by marching to the Semis, including a thrilling Quarter-Final win over Frances Tiafoe. The Aussie is not known for his fighting ability, but he saved 6 match points to recover from a set down to win. It truly was an impressive performance by him, and speaks volumes about his maturity this season. His serve is one of the true elite weapons in the sport, and his next opponent Mikael Ymer is likely to have fits trying to deal with it. He looks fully focused and undoubtedly has his sights set on the US Open, so that spells danger for anyone that crosses his path.

Mikael Ymer is unseeded here at the US Open, and is ranked outside the top 100, at #115. The Swede is a very surprising Semi-Finalist here at the Washington Open, but fully deserves to be here with some massive wins. He had an upset win over local favorite Sebastian Korda, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in an impressive performance. That was his fourth consecutive three set win, all against players ranked ahead him, upsetting Andy Murray, Emil Ruusuvuori and Aslan Karatsev. He will be hoping to keep the fairytale alive with another win over Nick Kyrgios, but that may be too tough an ask for him given his opponent’s form.

This is as simple a pick as it gets, Nick Kyrgios will win and move on to the Final here at the Washington Open. I am always skeptical about picking the Aussie in straight sets due to his highly unpredictable nature, but these odds look too good to pass up. I feel relatively comfortable backing him to win 2-0 here given his immense form, his opponent’s experience, and the fact that Mikael Ymer must be exhausted from spending so much time on court. Make no mistake, Kyrgios will dominate here and march on to the Final.
