Felix Auger-Aliassime will meet Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 of the 2022 Western and Southern Open. The match will be played on Thursday August 18th, 2022 at approximately 7:00pm EST.

Felix Auger-Aliassime is the seventh seed at the Western and Southern Open, and is ranked 9th on the ATP Tour. The explosive young Canadian has really stepped up his game over the past few seasons, winning his first ATP title and breaking into the top 10 for the first time. After a First round bye, he controlled the match against Alex de Minaur, winning a potentially tricky match 6-3, 6-2 with some explosive power-hitting and precise serving. He has an impressive 36-20 record on the season but has been very inconsistent when making it deep into tournaments, especially big ones and he has a big opportunity to do well here. His next opponent has been equally as impressive recently, Jannik Sinner, but this may be the Canadian’s chance as Sinner has looked vulnerable so far.

Jannik Sinner is ranked 12th in the world and is the 10th seed at the Western and Southern Open. The Italian youngster has burst onto the scene recently, winning multiple titles and like his opponent Felix Auger-Aliassime, breaking into the top 10 briefly for the first time. He has been having an outstanding year in 2022, recently winning the Umag title but has started slowly here, surprisingly struggling to overcome Kokkinakis and then receiving a walkover then Kecmanovic retired midway through their match. The conditions here suit him very well, and he will have to put Felix Auger-Aliassime under some early pressure with his groundstrokes if he is to win here.

This match should be a blockbuster between two of the most exciting young players in the world today. Both men are very dynamic and play very similar styles, with big serves and huge groundstrokes. It is a pretty tight one to call, with Felix Auger-Aliassime looking better this week and Jannik Sinner having the better season so far. It will be extremely close, but I am going with Sinner to get the win here. He handles the pressure a bit better, and has been more consistent later on in tournaments than his counterpart. Betting each man to win a set and the overs on games played look like solid picks, but if I have to pick a winner, I’m going with the Italian here.
