Alexander Bublik is the seventh seed here at the 2022 Moselle Open and is ranked 44th on the ATP Tour. The 25 year old is seeking his second title of the year after tasting success in Montpelier, on this same surface. While he has done well to reach the Semis he has been quite sloppy to say the least, winning three consecutive three set matches. With the exception of the First Round match against Evan Furness they were all tough matches, so he can be forgiven and it speaks volumes to his newfound maturity that he was able to fight through those matches. Armed with a big serve and able to hit any shot in the book he can be very difficult to play against, and Stan Wawrinka will have a tough task ahead of him.

You can be forgiven for thinking this article is from 10 years ago as Stan Wawrinka being in the Semi-Finals of a tournament is a rare sight these days. After long struggles with both loss of form and injury it is great to see him back playing well again. He provided us with one of the upsets of the year when he stunned top seed Daniil Medvedev in the Second Round. What is even more stunning is the fact that he has already won five matches here, three of them going the distance and his fitness has still held up. There is no questioning his ability and vast experience, but we have to wonder how much longer can this go on for? Alexander Bublik will be hoping that fatigue is catching up to his opponent ahead of this one.

This match will be a good one. Stan Wawrinka is on fire at the moment, and as long as he is healthy and fit he will provide some outstanding tennis. Alexander Bublik is a bit of an enigma, capable of doing anything on a tennis court and is certainly the favorite here, especially since he leads the head to head series between them. It is tempting to side with Stan and the fairytale but Alexander Bublik is the smart play here. No matter how you slice it, Wawrinka’s legs will be heavy and the unorthodox Bublik should be able to take full advantage. Bublik to edge it, but only just. Back the overs and each man to win a set.
