Diego Schwartzman will meet Arthur Rinderknech in the Round of 16 at the 2022 Tel Aviv Open. The match will be played on Thursday September 29th, 2022.

Diego Schwartzman is the third seed here at the Tel Aviv Open and is ranked 17th on the ATP Tour. The Argentine has had one of his usual solid seasons without anything standing out. He recently competed in the Laver Cup last week, losing his only match to Stefanos Tsitsipas and had a disappointing US Open, losing to an impressive Frances Tiafoe in the Third Round. Clay courts are where he is most comfortable, but his elite movement and never say die attitude see him find success across all surfaces. However, where he tends to struggle is against the big hitters, and his first opponent Arthur Rinderknech is certainly one of those. Schwartzman has the edge in almost every category other than power, which may leave him vulverable if the Frenchman gets hot.

Arthur Rinderknech is unseeded here at the Tel Aviv Open and is ranked 58th in the world. The Frenchman has had some strong results over the past two seasons and is nearing a top 50 ranking. He enters this event on the back of a strong showing in Metz, reaching the Quarter-Finals defeating fifth seeded Nikolosz Basilashvili on the way. He certainly won’t back down from the challenge of playing a top player like Diego Schwartzman, and his serve and big baseline game will need to be clicking here. If he is able to overpower the Argentine and hit through him he certainly has a shot, but this will entail playing an almost perfect match. Schwartzman is one of the hardest workers on tour and won’t give free points away, he literally needs to be beaten which is easier said than done.

This will be tougher than the rankings suggest, but I am still expecting Diego Schwartzman to pull through. He tends to struggle against the big hitters on this surface and I think that Arthur Rinderknech will cause him a lot of problems. This likely will go the distance and in that scenario I always lean towards experience, and Schwartzman leads that category by a landslide. Back him to win this match with confidence, if you don’t mind a risk the overs on games played should be a decent shout.
