Jannik Sinner will meet Nuno Borges in the Round of 16 of the 2022 Sofia Open. The match will be played on Thursday September 29th, 2022 at 11:00am EST.

Jannik Sinner is the top seed at the Sofia Open and is ranked 10th on the ATP Tour. The Italian has cemented his status as one of the best young talents in world tennis, and truly seems on the cusp of breaking out and winning a big tournament. He came very close at both Wimbledon and the US Open, losing a five set thriller to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the Quarter-Finals. He has had a stellar season so far and will hope to end it with a bang here, being the favorite to capture the title here in Sofia. His opponent Nuno Borges is quite inexperienced at this level and is not expected to put up much of a fight here, but of course anything can happen.

Nuno Borges is unseeded here at the Sofia Open and is ranked 93rd in the world. The Portuguese player has had quite a bit of success at the Challenger Level, but has largely struggled on the main tour. In fact, he has failed to win consecutive ATP matches this season in any tournament and will be very hard pressed to win here against pre-tournament favorite Jannik Sinner. Borges was impressive in his opening round win over Mirza Basic, winning in three sets. However, this is a whole different level here against a top 10 opponent and it will be ridiculously difficult for him to get any sort of result here.

This should be a walk in the park for Jannik Sinner. Simply put, he is the much better player and the gulf in rankings is telling. Nuno Borges doesn’t have the firepower to trouble the talented Italian, and Sinner should be able to dominate this match from start to finish. There isn’t much point betting on the outright since the odds are so long (unless in an ACCA) but back the straight sets win with extreme confidence. This won’t be a close affair here at the Sofia Open.
