Roberto Bautista Agut will meet Antoine Bellier in the Semi-Finals of the 2022 Mallorca Open. The match will be played on Friday June 24th, 2022.

This is yet another surprising Semi-Final matchup this week at the Mallorca Open, as neither Roberto Bautista Agut nor Antoine Bellier were expected to reach this stage of the competition. Bautista Agut is a well known top player, but given his form and difficult draw it was hard to imagine him reaching the Semis. Antoine Bellier is the surprise package, as the Qualifier has stunned the tennis world by not only getting his first ATP wins, but reaching the Semi-Finals. Can he keep the dream alive and reach the Final here in Mallorca?

Roberto Bautista Agut is the fifth seed here at the Mallorca Open and has been in the top 20 of the rankings for many years. The Spaniard has not been at his best over the past couple seasons, but he remains a very dangerous player on all surfaces with his exceptional movement and flat, penetrating groundstrokes. While he is a very good player, no one would have expected him to reach the Semis here, taking out world number one Daniil Medvedev in the process. It was not only the fact that he won, it was the manner that he totally dominated the match, controlling the match from the baseline. The Russian surely was fatigued after reaching back to back Finals over the past two weeks but nonetheless it was a very impressive win and he enters this match as the massive favorite against the barely known Antoine Bellier.

Antoine Bellier must surely be pinching himself. He began this tournament outside the top 300, and was not even favored to make it out of the Qualifying Rounds. In fact, he found himself down match points in the Qualifying and his tournament was one point away from being over. However, the Swiss player managed to qualify and then stunned everyone by defeating Federico Delbonis, Pablo Carreno Busta and Tallon Griekspoor to reach the Semi-Finals. His win over Carreno Busta surely is one of the biggest upsets for the year and he will be hoping to keep his magical run going. He is a major underdog here against Roberto Bautista Agut, but he has been the underdog many times this week and it hasn’t stopped him. His big serve and exceptional volleys have carried him this far, and he literally has nothing to lose, making him exceedingly dangerous.

On paper, Roberto Bautista Agut should run away with this match. However, matches aren’t played on paper and Antoine Bellier has made a mockery of the rankings this week. Despite all of that, I still expect Bautista Agut to win this match. He very rarely loses matches to players ranked lower than him, and his exceptional court coverage and focus will be the key factors here. I think that both sets will be very tight, but the Spaniard should definitely win here, making his second career grass court Final here at the Mallorca Open.
