Taylor Fritz will meet Nick Kyrgios in the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 Tokyo Open. The match will be played on Friday October 7th, 2022.

A blockbuster clash is expected here in the Quarters of the Tokyo Open. Taylor Fritz and Nick Kyrgios are two exciting players with huge games, certain to put on a show for the fans. Who will win here and move on to the Semi-Finals?

Taylor Fritz is the 3rd seed here at the Tokyo Open and is ranked 11th on the ATP Tour. The American has had an outstanding hard court season this year, despite a disappointing early loss at the US Open and is determined to make amends here. The American suffered from COVID last week and has not been at his best here so far, but tough wins over James Duckworth and Hiroki Moriya were just enough to get him to the Quarter-Finals. However, a hugely difficult battle with Nick Kyrgios is looming here, and he will have to be much better if he is to have any hope here. He hasn’t looked quite right and will be considered the underdog here despite the higher ranking, but if he is able to shake the illness fully he can make this competitive.

Nick Kyrgios is the fifth seed here at the Tokyo Open and is ranked 19th in the world. Like his opponent Taylor Fritz, the Aussie has had a fantastic season and is one of the big favorites to lift the title here in Japan. After an comfortable win in the First Round, he was surprisingly pushed to three sets by Kamil Majchrzak before pulling through. Kyrgios has so much firepower in his arsenal but tends to only fully focus against the top players, leading to some inconsistent results on occasion. Fritz is sure to push him, but given his fitness troubles Kyrgios has to be considered the favorite here.

Normally this would be a very close match, but it is hard to look past Nick Kyrgios here given Taylor Fritz’s recent struggles. Fritz won their only ever meeting earlier this year, but if he is not quite at 100% this should prove a no contest. This is largely dependent on how well the American recovers, but he hasn’t looked himself this week and I don’t see him getting past the Aussie in this state. Back Kyrgios to win with confidence.
