Daniil Medvedev is the 5th seed here at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters and is ranked 6th in the world. The Russian is on a ridiculous winning streak at the moment, winning his last three events in Rotterdam, Dubai and Qatar. He continued that form here, cruising past Brandon Nakashima but surprisingly lost the first set to Ilya Ivashka. He rebounded well to get out of that hole with some big serving, but will have to be much better to get past Alexander Zverev in the next round.
Alexander Zverev is the 12th seed here at the Indian Wells Masters and has looked impressive here, after struggling after his return from injury. After looking strong early in the tournament he struggled against Emil Ruusuvuori, and was within a few games of losing the match. However, he showed his mental strength by holding his nerve to close the match out, but will need to be much, much improved against the red-hot Daniil Medvedev in the next round.
This should be a classic match between two staples in the top 10 of the rankings, but even though it looks close on paper, there is only going to be one winner here. Alexander Zverev is still rounding into fitness and form since his injury and is not the player he once was yet. Daniil Medvedev struggled to start the season but is the best player in the world at the moment, after winning the last three tournaments. He is probably the favorite to win the title here and I think he shouldn’t have too many problems getting the better of Zverev at this stage.
