Third seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet young gun Jannik Sinner in a blockbuster Round of 16 clash at the 2023 Australian Open. Both players have been solid over the past few seasons and this is set to be a classic. The Greek star has been dominant so far this week, especially in his Third Round win over Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets. He has been one of the most consistent players over the last few years, and with all the seeds falling by the wayside, he has to feel that he has a real chance of winning the title here.

Jannik Sinner is the 15th seed, and along with Carlos Alcaraz is considered the top young player in the world at the moment. After two outstanding seasons in a row, he is a dark horse contender for the title here but was far from convincing in his Third Round win over Marton Fucsovics. The Hungarian is a very solid player, but Sinner showed very little resistance in the early stages, going down two sets to love quickly. He recovered well to dominate the last three sets, losing only three games but knows that Tsitsipas is very unlikely to allow him to recover like that. He will have to be much improved and starts this match as the underdog, but if things click he has a very real chance of causing the upset.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the clear favorite, especially since he has a 4-1 record over the Italian thus far. However, Sinner has shown that he has what it takes to defeat the top players, and has enough firepower to get the win here. We are going to go against the grain and predict Sinner to win. Tsitsipas has been great so far and this really can go either way, but he has been known to get tight when he is presented with big opportunities like this one. I’m expecting a five set thriller, and we are going with Sinner to cause the major upset here.
