Adrian Mannarino will meet Ilya Ivashka in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Geneva Open. The match will be played on Wednesday May 24th, 2023.
Adrian Mannarino is the 8th seed here at the 2023 Geneva Open and is ranked 47th on the ATP Tour. The French lefty was very impressive in his First Round win over the dangerous Filip Krajinovic, defeating the Serbian 7-5, 6-1 in a match that he surprisingly controlled with his serve. His serve is not known as a weapon, but he only faced two break points during the entire match and that coupled with his ultra consistent baseline game got him over the edge comfortably. He is up against an opponent he knows well, Ilya Ivashka and they have always had tough battles in the past.
Ilya Ivashka is unseeded here at the 2023 Geneva Open and is ranked 86th in the world. Once ranked as high as #40, he has been maddingly inconsistent across all surfaces recently, but his talent is undeniable. With a poor 4-10 record on the year, he overcame Guido Pella in the First Round 6-4, 7-5. The match was very close and like with his opponent Adrian Mannarino's win, Ivashka served extremely well. Hitting six aces and winning over 80% of his first serve points enabled him to get the victory, and he will need his best tennis to win here.
I am expecting a very close three setter, like the other two battles these two have had. Both men served well in the First Round, but Ivashka is the one that I trust to serve well out of the two. However, I am going with the Frenchman to get the win here. His experience should give him the slight edge, and these courts are playing quite quickly, which he likes. It'll be close, but give me Adrian Mannarino in a close affair here at the 2023 Geneva Open.
