Antwerp Open: Grigor Dimitrov vs. Pablo Andujar 10/21/20 Tennis Prediction
2020-10-21 12:30:00 EDT
Grigor Dimitrov begins his indoor hard court campaign as he meets Pablo Andujar in the second round of the 2020 Antwerp Open. Will Dimitrov continue to perform solidly as he did at the French Open, reaching the quarterfinals, or will Andujar cause a shocking upset on Wednesday, October 21st 2020?
Pablo Andujar came through his first round encounter against clay-court specialist, Federico Coria, in a rather easy fashion. It was not really a contest however as Coria focuses the majority of his playing time on the clay courts and has never really backed himself to expand his game to play solidly on hard courts. Andujar is not as solid of a player as he used to be and he will have to up his level drastically if he is to come through his second round encounter against an opponent who loves to play on indoor hard courts and who’s biggest title, the ATP Finals, was won on indoor hard, Grigor Dimitrov.
Grigor Dimitrov has been playing superbly over the last few weeks, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2020 French Open and showing us all that he is going to be an even bigger threat the more tennis he gets under his belt. Dimitrov has a very beautiful, expansive game and is able to move his opponents around the court with ease due to his powerful forehand and precise one-handed backhand. Dimitrov will be looking at the field here and be surely thinking that if he plays his A-game, he can potentially grab the title.
This is going to be the 4th meeting between both players with Grigor dimitrov leading the head to head 2-1. The only victory Andujar got over Dimitrov was in 2011 where Dimitrov had to retire due to injury. Since then, Dimitrov has cruised through their 2 other encounters in straight sets. They have not met since 2014, however, this only helps Dimitrov who has improved since then and is bad for Andujar who has worsened since then. I expect Dimitro to win this match in straight sets and book a spot into the quarterfinals in Antwerp.
