The British lefty enjoyed a spectacular South American clay court swing, reaching one Final and winning the title in Rio, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the Final. That momentum has carried across to his favored hard courts, and he started his campaign strongly here, defeating Tung-Lin Wu in straight sets. Norrie served extremely well and was able to break his opponent five times in the victory.
Taro Daniel is unseeded here at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters and is ranked 103rd in the world. After doing well to qualify and then defeat Roberto Carballes Baena in the First Round, not much was expected of him in his match against Matteo Berrettini, one of the pre-tournament favorites. However, Daniel shocked the world by winning in three sets. Granted it was not a great performance from the Italian but Daniel did very well to defeat one of the best players in the world, giving him a huge confidence boost which he will need here against Cameron Norrie.

He is currently on a six game winning streak and even though he is likely to be fatigued, he has more than enough quality to get the win here.
