Third seeded Frances Tiafoe has moved into the Quarter-Finals here at the 2023 Stuttgart Open with a straight sets win over Jiri Lehecka. The world number 12 improved to 24-9 on the season and will have his sights on going even further. He was at his aggressive best during the match, hitting nine aces and winning over 80% of his first service points. In this sort of form he can be very difficult to beat, and while grass isn’t his favorite surface he has the tools to do well.
Lorenzo Musetti is the sixth seed here at the 2023 Stuttgart Open and like his opponent Frances Tiafoe reached the Quarter-Finals without much fuss. Winning in straight sets over Gregiore Barrere, he played very well, dominating the match from the baseline, using his backhand to great effect. Like his opponent, he is at his least comfortable on this surface, winning his first two matches ever this week.
Frances Tiafoe is no grass court expert, but he has shown flashes, and has made significant improvement on this surface. Lorenzo Musetti had never won a match on grass before this week, and even though he has looked solid enough, he cannot match the American. Tiafoe should control the match with his serve, and his experience will be the difference here. I don’t trust him to win in straight sets, but he should have no problem winning this one and moving on to the Semis here at the 2023 Stuttgart Open.
