French Open: Sofia Kenin vs. Jessica Pegula 6/5/21 Tennis Prediction

Sofia Kenin (4) meets Jessica Pegula (28) in the third round of the 2021 French Open on Saturday, June 5th 2021.

Who will come out on top in this All-American battle in the third round? Will it be the very experienced and accomplished Sofia Kenin or the lesser known, but still very hard to beat on her best day, Jessica Pegula to get the win here in Paris?

Jessica Pegula cruised through her second round match against Tamara Martincova in 2 sets 6-3/6-3. Jessica showed great composure during the early games in both of those sets where things were quite tight. Once she was able to get on top of the sets, she was not letting her opponent back into the match. Jessica will be confident from this victory and she will see her ability to cause the upset against a player she has beaten before in Sofia Kenin, but she will know it will not be an easy feat to accomplish.

Sofia Kenin also cruised through her second round match, beating Hailey Baptiste, in 2 sets 7-5/6-3. Sofia Kenin will be looking at the draw now and she will know that there are only 2 real threats to her making the Final and winning the title, Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina. On her best day, Sofia is more than capable of beating either of them, but she will need to continue improving her game and not waste precious effort against the likes of Jessica Pegula if she wants to keep her title aspirations alive.

This is going to be the 4th meeting between both, with Jessica Pegula having won 2 of their 3 encounters. However, Kenin won their latest encounter this year, and I think that we will see another Kenin victory to level their head to head. This is a match on clay where Kenin is much better than Pegula, and I think that Kenin will come out here ready to give it her best shot to continue improving her momentum in order to reach her best level as she enters more important rounds in the tournament she wants to win.
