Fifth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece will face American John Isner in the Third Round of the 2021 French Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday June 4th, 2021 at approximately 3:00pm EST.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings and is also the fifth seed here at Roland Garros. The Greek star has established himself as one of the best players in the world this year, and currently leads the ATP year-end race to Turin. After winning his first Masters-1000 title in Monte-Carlo, he announced himself as one of the main contenders for the title here at the 2021 French Open, and has been breezing through the draw here so far. Yet to lose a set, he enters the match against John Isner as the heavy favorite but the American is always a dangerous opponent due to his serve. If Tsitsipas can break a couple times then he should have no problem winning this match, but that is always easier said than done.
John Isner is the #31 seed here at Roland Garros. While the American has had a very successful career, most of his good results have come on the faster surfaces, and he should be considered the underdog here against Stefanos Tsitsipas. However, he has one of the best serves in history and that should allow him to be somewhat competitive. Isner has been outstanding so far here at the French Open, and is also yet to lose a set with comprehensive wins over Sam Querry and Filip Krajinovic. If things go his way he may be able to sneak a set due to his serve, and he will be hoping to take this match to a tiebreak or two.
Despite Isner’s serve, I still see Stefanos Tsitsipas winning this match comfortably. The Greek has a huge serve himsef, and is much better from the baseline. He is not as prone to mental lapses as he has been in the past, and I expect him to dominate his service games, while doing enough to get a few breaks, which is all that is needed. I expect a straight sets win for Stefanos Tsitsipas here in Paris.
