Holger Rune is the 4th seed here at the 2023 Acapulco Open and is ranked 10th in the world. The Danish sensation has a 9-4 record on the season and has been awesome so far this week, winning a tough three setter over Ben Shelton in the First Round and then simply crushing his next two opponents, Nuno Borges and Matteo Berrettini. Against Berrettini, he only lost 7 points in all, being up 6-0, 1-0 before the Italian retired. Rune’s upside is incredible, and he is understandably the betting favorite against Alex de Minaur.
Alex de Minaur is the 8th seed here at the Acapulco Open and like his Semi-Final opponent Holger Rune, has been in ridiculous form this week. The talented Aussie has only lost eight games in total across his three matches, thrashing Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-2 in the Quarter-Finals. His upside isn’t as high, but there are few better at him at the counterpunching game, and his movement is second to none. This will be a tough matchup for him for sure, but he is one of the most difficult opponents on the tour.
This match is very, very difficult to call, and it truly can go either way. Both men are in very good form, and even though Rune has the edge in power, de Minaur won’t give anything away. Most will predict a win for Rune here but I am going with the Aussie. He literally won’t give the youngster anything for free, and his counterpunching prowess is a stern test for players much more experienced than the Dane. I am expecting a three set thriller but I have more confidence in de Minaur in the big points, so I am leaning towards him reaching the Final.
