Lorenzo Musetti will meet Ben Shelton in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Queen’s Championships. The match will be played on Wednesday June 21st, 2023.
Sixth seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti has looked quite good on the grass over the past couple weeks, reaching the Quarter-Finals last week in Stuttgart, narrowly losing to eventual champion Frances Tiafoe. He continued the fine form by winning his opening match here at the Queen’s Championships, defeating Jan Choinski 6-4, 6-2. He served quite well throughout the contest, only being broken once and will be the big favorite here against the American Ben Shelton who is quite inexperienced on this surface.
Ben Shelton is unseeded here at the 2023 Queen’s Championships and is ranked 35th in the world. The young American lefty defeated his countryman JJ Wolf in the First Round, an impressive win for someone with hardly any grass court experienced. Equipped with a big serve and a good all-aruond game, I do think that he can be a dangerous grass player in the future, especially with his great touch at the net. A difficult match against Lorenzo Musetti awaits him in the Round of 16, and he will have to be at his best to win here.
Lorenzo Musetti should win this match quite comfortably, but Ben Shelton is becoming used to proving the doubters wrong. He has a great game, and if the Italian is not careful he can easily lose this match. However, Musetti is a very mature player, and his game surprisingly translates quite well to this surface. It’ll be a very interesting and entertaining match, but it’ll come down to experience on grass in the end and Musetti has that edge.
