Maxime Cressy vs Steve Johnson 7/14/22 Newport Tennis Picks, Predictions, Odds

Steve Johnson and Maxime Cressy meet in the quarterfinals of the 2022 tennis Hall of Fame Open.

Steve Johnson is coming off a walkover victory over Jiri Vesely. Johnson will be well rested for this match, considering he’s played only 2 hours of tennis to get to this point. It’s been a rough year for Johnson, but he did find some success making the third round of Wimbledon, and he usually plays his best tennis on American soil. In fact, 4 of Johnson’s 6 career final appearances have taken place in the US. Johnson now has a chance to win 3 straight matches on the main tour for the first time since Washington of last year. Johnson has won 5 of his last 8 matches on grass court.

Maxime Cressy is coming off a straight set win over Mitchell Krueger that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Cressy won 87 percent of his first serve points and 74 percent of his second serve points. Cressy won 82 percent of his total service points and converted on 2 of his 6 break points. Cressy got 61 percent of his first serves in play and hit 15 aces. Cressy has now won 6 of his last 8 matches, which is easily his best stretch of tennis this year. Cressy has won 6 of his last 8 matches on grass court.

There’s no match history between these 2 players.

You could make a case for either player, as they’re both Americans who play to the crowd, and they’ve both had struggles this year. With that said, Cressy has shown a lot more as of late, including his win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in Wimbledon and taking Taylor Fritz to 3 sets in Eastbourne. Cressy is easily the more trustworthy player at the moment.

Give me Cressy to make the semifinals.
