The up and coming Italian star, Lorenzo Musetti, meets Laslo Djere in the semifinals of the 2020 Sardinia Open in what is going to be a fascinating duel. Will Lorenzo Musetti make his first ATP Tour level final, or will Djere make us wait a bit longer?
Laslo Djere defeated Jiri Vesely in straight sets 6-4/6-4 in the quarterfinals here but did not overly impress me in that match. Djere seemed as if he was more passive and eventually was able to steal some free points from Vesely when his level dropped. Djere knows he has a lot of experience, especially on clay, and that he can use this to his advantage in matches against opponents such as Vesely, however, he needs to increase his level drastically if he is to stand a chance here against the young Italian, Lorenzo Musetti, who is incredibly determined to make his maiden ATP Tour level final.
Lorenzo Musetti is something else in my opinion. The young Italian is having an incredible season and he is continuously showing us that he is the real deal for the future of the game. Musetti can play incredibly well and has a sniper serve and an incredible one-handed backhand. Musetti cruised through his match against Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets and he looked very confident all the way through, even when he was down 3-0 in the second set. Musetti is going to be big in tennis and I believe he has much more to give here in Sardinia.
This is going to be the first meeting between both players and it is going to be an extremely fun encounter. For me, personally, I think Musetti is going to cruise through this match. I did not see enough from Laslo Djere in that quarterfinal victory over Vesely and I saw a lot of hope from Musetti winning over Hanfmann. Musetti is at home, he is definitely more motivated and he has the better potential to win the title here in my opinion. I think a tight encounter might happen, but if Djere plays the same way he did, Musetti should cruise through to the final.
