Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet Alex de Minaur in the Quarter-Finals of the 2023 Barcelona Open. The match will be played on Friday April 21st, 2023.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the 5th ranked player in the world and the second seed here at the Barcelona Open. After cruising past Pedro Cachin in his opening match, he crushed Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-2 to move on to the Quarters where he will meet Alex de Minaur. With his big serve and huge groundstrokes, the Greek star is one of the favorites to lift the trophy here and will be the big favorite to advance over the Aussie.
Alex de Minaur is the 8th seed and ranked 19th on the ATP Tour. While clay isn’t his preferred surface, he is still very capable and is one of the hardest working and quickest players on the Tour. He crushed Alexander Shevchenko 6-0, 6-1 in his first match and then received a walkover when Grigor Dimitrov pulled out. He is the big underdog here but will be fresher than his opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas, and it will be interesting to see how this pans out.
This should be smooth sailing for Tsitsipas, despite Alex de Minaur being such a good player. He leads the head to head 8-0, and I am expecting a dominant performance here to extend that lead. De Minaur doesn’t go away easily and he will make things interesting initially, but expect the Greek star to pull away eventually, reaching the Semi-Finals here at the 2023 Barcelona Open.
