Denis Shapovalov is ranked #18 in the world and has had a very inconsistent year in 2021, which is disappointing after his outstanding end to the 2020 season. He ended the year in a dominant year, breaking into the top 10 for the first time and big things were expected this season. However, despite some good results he has not been anywhere near as consistent as he would like and has seen his ranking slide. He has an opportunity to end the year on a high note by winning his second career title here at the 2021 Stockholm Open. The Canadian star has been outstanding here so far, notably defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in a high quality Semi. In this sort of form he is expected to breeze past Tommy Paul, and enters this match as the big favorite.
Tommy Paul has been having the tournament of his life here at the 2021 Stockholm Open, and has already reached a major milestone with this being his first ever ATP Final. After a poor year the American has found form at the right time, showing tremendous heart to overcome Frances Tiafoe in the Semi-Finals, after his opponent served for the match at 6-5 in the second set. While he doesn’t have any Finals experience he has been in great form and will be backing himself to get the win here over Denis Shapovalov.
