Ashleigh Barty (1) meets Carla Suarez Navarro in the first round of the 2021 Championships on Tuesday, June 29th 2021.
Will Carla Suarez Navarro be able to make an amazing run in her last ever Wimbledon as she retires at the end of the year, or will Ashleigh Barty come out here healthy from her injury which has hurt her over the last month on the wta tour?
Carla Suarez Navarro is in her final ever Wimbledon and it will be very sad to see her retire at the end of the year. Carla is a champion through and through as she had an amazing career putting on some amazing performances, but she also showed us she fights off the court with that same passion. Carla will be remembered and even if she loses early here we all know that she is deserving of a win. Can she cause the huge upset and perhaps give us one or two more moments of Navarro magic on the court?
Ashleigh Barty returns from her hip injury which saw her have to withdraw from Paris earlier this month in her second round match. Barty did not play any tournaments since then and I wonder where her game will be on grass right from the start. Barty will be looking to work her way into the tournament, improving with every match she plays to ensure she can get to her best by the business end of the tournament. Barty is will have a tough opponent in the first round, but if she is at her best, she can definitely have a good run in this match.
This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and I think this is going to be a very entertaining match. Carla and Ashleigh will both try and find their footing on this surface and the first two sets will be quite scrappy I believe. The real turning point in this match will be in the third set where Ashleigh will have more stamina and be able to get an advantage in this match. Ashleigh will fight through a tight match and make her way to the second round in London.
