Wimbledon: Daniil Medvedev vs. Carlos Alcaraz 7/1/21 Tennis Prediction
Daniil Medvedev vs Carlos Alcaraz
July 1, 2021 11:00 am EDT
Will the up and coming Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, come out here ready to put it all out on the line as he aims to get the biggest win of his career under his belt, or will Daniil Medvedev continue impressing on grass after having a very successful last 2 weeks?
Carlos Alcaraz had to fight right until the end in his match against Yasutaka Uchiyama in the first round, beating the Japanese player in 5 sets 6-3/6-7/6-2/3-6/6-2. Carlos Alcaraz will be happy with that performance as he was able to show some composure during the tight moments and get the win under his belt. However, his game is still not as developed as it needs to be, so he will have to raise his level much higher than he can if he is to stand a chance now against his second round opponent here at Wimbledon in Daniil Medvedev.
Daniil Medvedev was in great form in his first round match, beating the German, Jan-Lennard Struff, who had beaten him easily just 2 weeks before on grass. Medvedev won this match in 4 sets 6-4/6-1/4-6/7-6. The final two sets were tight, but Medvedev was able to use his experience at Grand Slam tennis to get the upper hand when it mattered most. Medvedev will now want to get himself into the later rounds here in London, and I am sure that he will come out here ready to give it his best and to not waste any time on court to ensure he has energy for the next week and a half.
This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and unfortunately for the young Spaniard, he stands no chance here I believe. He struggled a lot against a not very known player, this is his first ever grass court season, and he has never beaten such a high ranked opponent. Daniil Medvedev will come out here, serve huge, and move Alcaraz around the court so much that the Spaniard will not know what he can do to get himself into this match. Medvedev will cruise in straight sets here and make his way to the third round.
