Wimbledon: Matteo Berrettini vs. Botic Van de Zandschulp 7/1/21 Tennis Prediction
Matteo Berrettini vs. Botic Van de Zandschulp
July 1, 2021 2:00 pm EDT
Matteo Berrettini (7) meets Botic Van de Zandschulp in the second round of the Wimbledon on Thursday, July 1st, 2021.
Will we see a huge upset so early on here at Wimbledon by Botic Van de Zandschulp as he aims to make a breakthrough, or will the more experienced and in form Matteo Berrettini cruise through another match on grass this season?
Botic Van de Zandschulp is feeling very lucky this week at Wimbledon after being handed a lucky lose spot into the draw as well as getting a very easy first round opponent in Gregoire Barrere. Botic won that match in 4 sets 6-2/6-7/6-1/7-6 and he has now reached further than anyone, including himself, believed possible. Botic will now meet the very in form Italian Matteo Berrettini and he will have to come out swinging for the fences at his absolute best if he wants to get anything going his way throughout this second round Wimbledon match.
Matteo Berrettini also came through a 4 set match in the first round, beating Guido Pella 6-4/4-6/6-4/6-0. Although the scoreline seems quite tight until the 4th set, the match was the opposite. Matteo was cruising through his service games, expect for one in the second set, so he was able to dictate play and get the win under his belt against the Argentine. Matteo is backing up his performances which won him the Queens title a couple weeks ago and with every match he gets under his belt, his confidence increases on a surface where his game is primed to flourish.
This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and I don’t see anything going the way of Botic in this match. Botic has gotten further than he would have expected and I don’t see him having the level required to keep up with the raw power and speed of Matteo. Matteo will also not want to play another 4 set match this year and he will get this match done in straight sets to minimize time on court and maximise time preparing for tougher opponents later on in the tournament.
