Wimbledon: Roger Federer vs. Richard Gasquet 7/1/21 Tennis Prediction
Roger Federer vs. Richard Gasquet
July 1, 2021 12:00 pm EDT
Roger Federer (6) meets Richard Gasquet in the second round of the Wimbledon on Thursday, July 1st, 2021.
Will Richard Gasquet get a win over Roger Federer after not having beaten him in over 10 years, or will Roger Federer improve on his level which was not at his best in the first round as he aims to find his best before the business end of the tournament?
Richard Gasquet beat Sugita in the first round in 4 sets 7-6/4-6/6-2/6-1. Richard is still struggling with consistency as he is not able to keep up with big name players anymore, but he did show some solid tennis in the first round. Richard would have been hoping that Adrian Mannarino would have beaten Federer because it would have given him a chance to make the third round with an average level. Now, Gasquet needs to be even better than usual if he wants to cause the upset and get his 3rd career win over the Swiss legend.
Roger Federer had to fight a lot in that first round match against Adrian Mannarino, going 1 set up, losing the next two sets, then winning the 4th set, and Adrian Mannarino then retiring with a knee injury. Roger Federer knows he could have lost that match, but he will know that he needs to improve his level a lot if he wants to still compete here at Wimbledon and get himself into contention for the title later on. Roger will be working hard behind closed doors to get at his best, and I am sure he will perform better in the second round.
This is going to be the 21st meeting between both players, with Roger having beaten Richard 18 times before. Roger has always had the upper hand in this rivalry and unfortunately for Richard, I don’t see him beating Roger here. Roger is not at his best, but neither is Richard when it comes to stamina. Roger would rather go out swinging than anything else so he will always aim to give it his absolute best. Richard needs to be at his best, and hope Roger does not improve from his first round match, but I don’t see that happening.
