The New York Liberty and Chicago Sky meet Sunday in WNBA action at the Allstate Arena.
The New York Liberty start a new era under coach Katie Smith with Bill Laimbeer leaving for Las Vegas, and she takes over a core that has a lot of talent. The Liberty may have the deepest backcourt in the league with Sugar Rodgers, Epiphanny Prince and Brittany Boyd leading the charge. Tina Charles also returns after nearly averaging a double-double last season and proving she’s one of the top players in the league. And while that core will do most of the heavy lifting, the addition of UConn rookie Kia Nurse is also a nice boost given her ability to set teammates up, her basketball IQ and high shooting percentage from the outside. The New York Liberty may have a new voice, but this is a talented, experienced and maybe a bit underrated squad.

The Chicago Sky look for a quick 2-0 start to the season after blasting the Indiana Fever on Saturday. The Chicago Sky are averaging 82 points on 49.2 percent shooting and allowing 64 points on 36.8 percent shooting. Allie Quigley is averaging 19 points and five assists while Diamond DeShields is averaging 18 points and eight rebounds. Stefanie Dolson is the third double-digit scorer and Cheyenne Parker is grabbing eight rebounds. The Chicago Sky are shooting 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent from the free throw line. The Chicago Sky are allowing 20 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 44 rebounds per game. The Chicago Sky have lost four straight home games.
The Liberty are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Eastern Conference, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Sunday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Sky are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Liberty are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Chicago, 6-13-1 ATS in the last 20 meetings and the under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.
We're getting a free bucket with the Sky who just smoked the Indiana Fever on the road yesterday. The Sky now have the confidence offensively and have some of the rust knocked off, so there's value getting a team that's already played. The New York Liberty are very talented and deep, but they also have a new coach and some new pieces to work into the lineup. It's also not easy to start the season on the road. I like the value of getting the Sky and the free points after how they played yesterday.
