WNBA Draft 2020
WNBA Draft: Thursday, April 17, 2020 at 7:00 pm
The 2020 WNBA draft will be held this Friday and will be televised on ESPN while the entire thing is done virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. Good thing for us sports bettors is it’s a chance to make some money during quarantine, as there’s prop bets available.
Let’s look at some of the props and cash some tickets.
Second Overall Pick: Satou Sabally, -300 - Satou Sabally is a safe bet for the second overall pick. Sabally is a long, lengthy player with a ton of upside and the type of player the Dallas Wings can build around after losing Glory Johnson and Skylar Diggins-Smith during the offseason. The Wings would be a fool to pass on Sabally in this spot, so I’ll gladly lay the juice.
Fourth Overall Pick: Chennedy Carter, -250 - Assuming the Indiana Fever take Lauren Cox, Chennedy Carter should be the selection by the Atlanta Dream in the fourth spot. Carter is a dominant scorer who will replace the production of Angel McCoughtry and will be the face of this franchise going forward. The Dream need an energy spark and a player to give the keys to the offense. As long as Carter is on the board, the Dream will select her with the quickness.
Oregon Ducks Drafted In Top Five: Two, -300 - The Oregon Ducks will very likely have three first round picks in this draft, but Ruthy Hebard isn’t going in the top five like her former teammates Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally. While Hebard’s a double-double machine and consistent offensively in the post and on the glass, she doesn’t have the upside the projected players who round out the top five bring to the table. The Oregon Ducks will have two top-five selections and the first two picks of this draft.
Total Forwards Drafted In Round One: Over 7.5, +125 - There are about six or seven forwards guaranteed to go in the first round. That list includes Satou Sabally, Lauren Cox, Megan Walker, Bella Alarie, Ruthy Hebard, Jocelyn Willoughby and Kiah Gillespie. It’s tough to fit another forward in that mix, which is why the over is giving the plus money. However, we see surprises in the draft every year and players such as Joyner Holmes and Beatrice Mompremier are fringe first round talents. I need to find some plus money somewhere in these bets, so I’ll take a shot here.
Total Guards Drafted In First Round: Over 4.5 -200 - If you want to hedge your bet with the forward prop, you can take the over 4.5 guards selected in the first round. Sabrina Ionescu is a lock to be the first overall pick, while Chennedy Carter and Tyasha Harris are likely top-five picks. The other two guards selected in the first round will be Crystal Dangerfield out of UConn and Te’a Cooper out of Baylor. It’s hard not seeing those five players selected within the first 12 picks.
Will Sabrina Ionescu be Selected 1st Overall: Yes -10000 - Some would say laying this juice is pointless, but it’s a guaranteed winner, something we don’t see often in this business. Even if $1,000 only makes you $10 profit, it’s basically free money. Ionescu is the best female player in the world right now and will become a global star playing in New York. There’s no point in even making a case for the no at +2000 odds. It’s not happening.
