France and Nigeria face off on Friday morning in a women’s basketball showdown at the Olympics. France and Nigeria both lost their first game, so their backs are against the wall.

France opened up their Olympics against Japan, and although they were competitive, they were still defeated. Sandrine Gruda was the best player for France in the opening game putting up 19 points and nine rebounds. The big issue in that first game though was only one other player scored in double figures, and that led to the defeat. The bench production also wasn’t great with the top player scoring six points, and in this game, they need to be better. France made only four of their 19 shots from deep, and in this game, France needs to have better offensive production. In this game, France also needs to take care of the ball, and not have turnovers early.

On the other side of this matchup is Nigeria who opened up their Olympics against the United States, and they were competitive, but it wasn’t enough, as Nigeria was defeated Nigeria got out to a slow start to the game and although they did come back late, it wasn’t enough as they were defeated. Nigeria used a balanced attack with the offense, with four different players scoring at least ten points. Nigeria shot 6-28 from behind the three point line, and hitting a few more of those would be helpful in this game. The offense was good in that last game, but in this game it’s going to be about the defense stepping up. If the defense struggles in this game, they could fall to 0-2 in the Olympics.

France is the better team, but Nigeria has the offense to keep this game close. I don’t think Nigeria pulls off the upset, but they are going to keep it close. Back Nigeria to come away with the cover the spread.
