Canada and Spain face off on Saturday night in a women’s basketball Olympic showdown. Canada currently sits with a 1-1 record overall while Spain has won each of their games.

Canada opened up their Olympic games with a victory over South Korea 74-53 but in the last game against Serbia, they couldn’t get the job done. Canada was competitive, but they lost by four points. Going into the 4th quarter, Canada was tied, but they were outscored by four in the last quarter. Kia Nurse has been the start for Canada and in the last game she put up 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists. One issue for Canada has been their production off the bench, and they need to have a more balanced attack. Players outside of Nurse are going to need to be a whole lot better.

In the first game of their Olympic games, Spain won 85-70 over Serbia and in the last game against South Korea, Spain was able to win 73-69. The best player for Spain was Astou Ndour who played 28 minutes and he finished with 28 points and ten rebounds. Laura Gil also was a key player finishing with 38 minutes and 16 points. In this game for Spain, it’s all going to be about the offense running up the score and making life tough on Canada to keep it close. If Spain can run up the score, they are going to have no issue getting the job done in this game.

Spain is going to push the pace in this game, but I don’t expect them to play a whole lot of defense in this game. Look for Spain’s pushing of the pace to lead to plenty of scoring, and this game is going to go over the total.
