The New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks face off on Sunday in a WNBA basketball showdown at the Barclays Center. When these two teams faced off earlier this year it was the Liberty who came away with the three point victory.

The New York Liberty have been up and down this season and coming into this game they sit with an 11-13 record which puts them 3rd place in the Eastern Conference.  At times the defense has been a big issue for this team and it was no different in the last game when they gave up 99 points. The Liberty like to keep the tempo up but sometimes it hurts them with the defense. The Liberty on the season are averaging 79.5 points per game while their defense is giving up 85.4 points per game. Betnijah Laney has been the best player averaging 18.2 points while shooting 47.2 percent from the field. One disappointment for this team has been Sabrina Ionescu not taking the step forward that many expected her to take.

On the other side of this matchup is the Los Angeles Sparks who sit with a 9-13 record overall which puts them in last place in the Western Conference. Even with the struggles, the Sparks have been playing better as of late winning three games in a row. The last game wasn’t’ the prettiest, but the Sparks were able to pull it out late beating the Atlanta Dream 66-64. The Sparks on the season are averaging 73.5 points while giving up 78.5 points per game. This is a team that has dealt with a lot of injuries and it has hurt the production. Erica Wheeler has been the best player averaging 13.7 points while shooting 41 percent from the field.

The Sparks are playing the better basketball and they are going to attack the poor defense of the Liberty. Look for the Sparks to come away with a win and a cover of the spread.
