Phoenix Mercury at Seattle Storm

The Seattle Storm and Phoenix Mercury face off on Sunday in Round 2 of the WNBA playoffs at Angel of the Winds Arena. These two teams last faced off on the 17th and it was the Storm that won 94-85.

The Seattle Storm are the more talented team when healthy, but they are going to be without Breanna Stewart who is dealing with an ankle injury. Even though it’s a big loss, they didn’t have her the last time these two teams played, and the Storm still won by nine points. The Storm won three of their last four games to close the regular season. When this team finds success it’s the offense that is the difference. The Storm are averaging 84.8 points per game while their defense is giving up 80.4 points per game. Stewart has been the top player averaging 29 points per game. Jewell Lloyd has been the top player that is available for this game averaging 17.9 points per game.

On the other side of this matchup is the Phoenix Mercury who had to escape in their first game against the New York Liberty to reach this game. It was a back and forth battle with a couple key shots in the 4th quarter that won them the game. The Mercury were led by Skylar-Diggins Smith who finished with 22 points. The Mercury are averaging 82.1 points per game while their defense is giving up 79.5 points. Brittney Griner is the best player for the Mercury averaging 20.5 points while grabbing 9.5 rebounds.

The Storm have proven they can beat the Mercury without Stewart and they are going to do it again in this game. Seattle’s offense is going to run up the score, and Phoenix will have no answer. Back Seattle to win this game and cover the spread.
