The Dallas Wings and New York Liberty face off on Sunday in a WNBA showdown at the Barclays Center. When these two teams faced off in September 2021 it was the Wings that secured the 77-76 victory.
The Liberty opened up their season with a victory, against the Connecticut Sun, but since that point, they have lost two straight games. Two games ago against the Chicago Sky they lost 83-50, and in the last game against the Indiana Fever they lost 92-86 in overtime. New York made a big comeback, scoring 28 points in the 4th quarter, but in the overtime, they were outscored 16-10. The Liberty are averaging 78.5 points while giving up 85.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 10th, while their defense is ranked 12th. In this game, the defense is going to need to be better. Betnijah Laney has been the top player for New York, scoring 16.8 points while shooting 45.1 percent from the field.
On the other side of this matchup is the Dallas Wings, who come into this game with a 1-1 record. In the first game against the Atlanta Dream, the Wings were defeated 66-59, but they followed that up with a 94-86 victory over the Washington Mystics. The Wings defense only gave up 11 points in the third quarter, and that was the difference as they secured the victory. The Wings are averaging 81.1 points, while their defense is giving up 81.6 points per game. The offensive rating is 104.3 which is 5th in the league and the defensive rating is 105 which is 8th in the league. Arike Ogunbowale has been the top player for Dallas, averaging 18.7 points.
The Liberty’s defense is a big problem, giving up 85.5 points per game, and they just don’t have the offense to keep up when their defense is that bad. Look for Dallas to reach their average of 81.1 points at least, and that is going to be the difference as the Wings get the job done. Back Dallas against the spread.
